The Name Game
maxine August 19th, 2008
Dear Everyone,
I need your help! We’ve recently decided to put my preschool teaching expertise to use and make some money from it. While I feel it’s important for me to stay at home with Isaac, I can still hold little “Mommy and Me”-type classes to make a little extra money to help put us through college. Unfortunately, “Mommy and Me” is a registered trademark and I’d hate to incur the legal wrath of any company. If you come up with the winning name, you’ll have my eternal gratitude and some other fancy prize that I’ve yet to decide upon.
The name should reflect what the classes are about, so here are the specifics:
* They will be half-hour sessions for children and their mothers/fathers. Sessions will include singing all manner of songs (including in foreign languages), movement activities, finger plays, flannel stories, learning some basic sign language, etc. Basically, it will be teaching parents new and different ways to interact with their children.
* There will be time after classes for the parents to discuss child development issues with me if they want (I’ll have all sorts of articles and such to pass out at their request). Parents will also receive a handout at each session containing the songs we’ve learned that day.
* Classes will be separated by age group: toddler and preschool. The name could apply to both, but it would be fun to have some group names as well (e.g., “Mommy and Me” classes; Tadpole group and the Frog group). Not necessary, though.
* Leave your suggestions in the comments section, and I’ll be ever so grateful to you! Thanks a ton for your help! We’re hoping to get this going by the second week of September - wish us luck!
I feel that you shouldn’t be posting about anything “name” or “baby” related when Sheena’s about to have a baby, because we are all waiting impatiently for news!
That being said, I’m thinking for you. I’ve come up with some that are pretty generic: Wee Learn and Grow, and Tiny Tots Learning Time. I wish I could think of something cuter, but I’ll keep thinking.
Post when the new baby gets here, okay?
Will do! Sorry ’bout the misleading post.
Update: Sheena’s in the hospital. They’ve been giving her steady doses of pitocin, but she’s only experiencing minor contractions. The doctor thinks it could take a while (read: around 7ish tonight). I’ll post an update when we hear more.
Mommy and Shmee.
I would definitely take the child I don’t have to a class called “Mommy and Shmee.”
I’ll think but I’m not creative… But I do think it’s a great idea and I wish SO badly that someone had one down here we could sign up with! You know very well I’m at a total loss as to how to enterain my 2 year old… my craft today lasted a whole 10 minutes!! So much for not having her watch tv, although I am proud to report she’s watched less this week. Anyway, good luck finding a name, I’ll talk to Brent and see what he thinks!!
“Little Sprouts A-Growin’”
Or…Since “Mommy and Me” was such a hit…why not “Me and Mommy” or “Mother and I”? Does the copyright transcend languages? “Mutter und Mich” or “Mami y me” or “Mamma e mi”…the possibilities are endless.
I LOVE this idea- it’s perfect for you and I think you’re going to be crazy successful! I’ll have to give the name a little more thought though…we’ll be brainstorming for you!
All my creativity (the little that was there before) has temporarily been zapped, but I’ll keep thinking…
This is a genius idea, Maxine. I just wish I were in Utah so that I could join the group! I know firsthand what a fantastic teacher Maxine is!
In the interest of suggestions, some combination of ‘Little’ and ‘Lessons’. People love to look at alliterations.
Your slogan could be “I’ll teach your toddlers to multiply! Give me your money.”
HA! That’s awesome! And up-front.
